What kind of flat-iron is the best and why?

i want to straighten my medium-length hair. i already use bedhead's control freak straightening spray/ but today i went shopping for a hot/flat-iron and i just got confused. every conpany makes like 3 or 4or 5 different ones. conair, revlon, remington, etc. some are ceramic, some are curved, some are smaller on one end, some have vents so you can dry your hair and straighten it at the same time.... which one should i buy? why are some of them 19.99 and some are 57.99? is the quality of the ceramic really that critical? help!

I like products by conair best. They give youe heat control settings for every hair type. The ones that are "smaller" or have panels that are about an inch wide work best for little chunks of hair at atime, so depending on how much hair you have and the length it may take you longer to straighten your hair. Flat irons with panels at abour 2 inches wide will do wider chunks of hair so it shouldn't take as long.

A ceramic iron will get hotter than one not made of ceramic so if you have resistant hair that doesn't straighten easily ceramic is the best for you. If your hair straightens easily, ceramic is still good because it will stay hotter longer and still will be quicker for you to straighten your hair.

It is best to straighten your hair once it is already dry and has enough moisture in it so it won't damage easily!

ok, i have super curly hair and i have tried everything when it comes to flat irons, revelon, vidal sasson, remimgton, the ones that dry hair, conair. i had the best results with the revelon and vidal sasson ceramic irons- about 30 bucks should cover it. but if your looking for something really good, i have a corioliss hair iron it was 150 dollars but it can staighten and curl hair. your best bet is to buy an iron with plates that are about 1-2 inches wide. you can get closer to the scalp plus they are a lot less bulky.

Although they would be very expensive, I've heard that there are flat-irons with the flat-bed part made of crystal.That would be waaay less damaging to your hair, so maybe you could save up for that.There are surely some online reviews for the flat-irons you've considered.
