I have a black and silver conair and it was 49.99 at walmart and its awesome. The chis are great, dont get me wrong, they are really great, but for the 40 to 50 price range go with the conair:)

The chi is good and if you buy it at the mall or somewhere it is going to cost you $100.
BUT!!!
You can go to ebay and get the Corioliss for $30-$40.
It is the exact same as the straightener they have in the mall at the Kiosks. Works just like the Chi, maybe better. I love mine and Everyone I work with has one now!
We all can't live without it!!!!

well if you can believe it i use the conair wet to straight which is better than my moms professional expensive straightener (plus it has the feature of straightening your hair when its wet, duh) it doesnt fry your hair either and it makes it shiny and i think its only $30 or $40 and oyu can get it at wal-mart, target, or be like my mom and get it at the grocery store. but i think it is the best. you can also control the temperature and its red. and keep in mind i also have thick hair and i used to have it long and it worked and now my hair is short and it works just fine on that too. have fun!

Everyone always build up the Chi's but they are expensive and kinda suck for curly hair. I would recommend the Remington wet 2 straight. You can straighten it while it's wet and works amazingly!

i know you said you only wanted to spend 40-50 dollars, but you should totally get a sedu straightener!! They are around 108-115 dollars on folica.com, but really worth the investment! They do not damage your hair like the wal mart/drugstore brands i have bought before! Your hair will become up to 3 times smoother and silkier than when using ordinary ceramic straighteners! When i use mine, it feels like butter running through my hair! It doesnt take that long to straighten and i just love it.

Chi's do not last long. They break way too easily. Don't waste your money, and don't listen to the one's that are telling you it's the best. Sedu is one of the best straighteners out there and it is only $100.
To purcase a Sedu at the cheapest price, go to Folica.com , scroll to the very top and click on Hair Styling. On the left hand side, there will be and A - Z brand list. Find Sedu, click on it, and everything else from there is self - explanitory.
For more information on a Sedu, you can go to sedubeauty.com.

I would also recommend using a 1 inch instead of 1 1/2 inch, because the 1 1/2 doesn't do curls very well.
It reaches 410 degrees., with tempature control. CHI doesn't have tempature control.
Good luck!
